We have several video resources that you may find useful in discussing Hispanic Heritage, the PBS theme for September 30th to October 6th. Almost A Woman tells the story of Esmerelda Santiago, a girl who comes to America from Puerto Rico in 1961. Also, the complete set of Latino Americans examines the integration of Latinos into American culture.
Even though the WGBY Video Lending library is temporarily off line, we’ve added dozens of new titles covering a myriad of subjects. You might have seen some of these programs aired recently over WGBY, programs such as Ken Burns’ “The Address,” Word Girl’s “Monkey Business,” or an examination of Islamic art in “The Hidden Art of Islam.” These videos — and many more — can be borrowed free for a month or longer. Until Internet service is restored, contact librarian Bernie Michaels at firstname.lastname@example.org to order any of these videos.
Note: An error in this original post identified Esmerelda as a Puerto Rican immigrant when, of course, Puerto Ricans are U. S. Citizens.
