Last November before President Obama left the White House, he honored 21 individuals with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor — among them, Maya Lin.
Lin captured the nation’s attention and imagination ever since winning the public design competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1989 when only 21 and an undergraduate at Yale. (Her design, controversial at the time, was chosen over 1,441 other submissions.)
Tonight, Explore Biodiversity Through Timelines – Grades 6-12, WGBH, in collaboration with Maya Lin Studio’s “What Is Missing?” Project, gives you the chance to join Lin, educators, other artists and media producers around the launch of a new media-based environmental science project on PBS LearningMedia™.
Inspired by artist and architect Maya Lin’s “What Is Missing?” site — a collaboration between artists and scientists dedicated to the awareness of species and habitat loss — this project embodies STEAM in its integration of narrative and art with scientific data and student construction of explanations.
